Prenatal Classes in Sydney

As I’m currently on maternity leave with my second baby, I thought I’d do something completely different and recommend a few prenatal classes in Sydney that I’ve experienced. Pregnancy is such a special time in your life and it’s really important to stay healthy both mentally and physically. There are some great prenatal classes that can help you do this, whether it’s your first baby or your fifth. Here are a few examples of prenatal classes that I can recommend:

Prenatal Aquaerobics – Leichhardt Pool

For this pregnancy I wanted to try something a little bit different so I enrolled in prenatal aquaerobics at Leichhardt Aquatic Centre. The class is run by a really lovely guy who puts us pregnant ladies through our paces for 45 minutes once a week – usually to the tunes of some pretty cool 60s music (which I love). I have enrolled in 3 terms of this class as I’ve really enjoyed it and leave each class feeling really great. As I’ve only got 3 weeks to go until baby is due, I’m not sure that I’m going to last the remaining 5 weeks of classes but I’m going to hang in there until the very end nonetheless. For more information on this class, be sure to contact Leichhardt Aquatic Centre. Classes seem to book out quite quickly so I’d suggest you book in as soon as you can.

Calmbirth Classes

For both my pregnancies, I have done Calmbirth classes. For my first pregnancy, my husband and I traveled down to Bowral to see the wonderful Peter Jackson (founder of the course). I’d had some friends who had done the course before who both raved about it. It was truly wonderful and I had such a great birth experience last time with my daughter (now 2) that I credit to the things I learned at Calmbirth. My sister Lisa has been a midwife in Sydney for many years (20+) and being one of my support people for the birth, she saw first hand what a great mind space that Calmbirth helped me get in to. At no time did I feel like I needed anything but my own body to do the work – an amazing and empowering feeling. After my birth, she learned more about Calmbirth and became a qualified Calmbirth facilitator. Lisa now runs Calmbirth classes in the Northern Beaches of Sydney and is keeping very busy! If you’re pregnant, I would highly recommend doing a Calmbirth course – even if you’re having a planned caesarian.

Other Prenatal Classes Closer to Home

With my first daughter, despite every intention to get out and about and meet other Mums, I found it hard to find the time as I was working right up until she was born and getting home very late most nights. To keep active, I did a lot of walking (I walked 2km to and from work each day) and also did some home exercise DVDs that I purchased off Amazon. Two DVDs that I highly recommend are:

– What to Expect When You’re Expecting DVD – Suzanne Bowen’s Long and Lean Prenatal Workout

My Newborn Photography – An Update

Just as an update on my newborn photography. I’m taking some time off over the next 3 or so months but will be taking a limited amount of bookings for photography sessions for July 2014 onwards. If you’re currently pregnant and would like to book in with me, please feel free to send me an email and I will do my best to fit you in.

Best wishes to all the pregnant Mums out there!

xx Amy
