Top Tips to Make Your Maternity Photo Shoot a Breeze

Celebrating your blossoming pregnancy tummy with a maternity photo shoot is an amazing way to remember this special time in your life. Sure - we might not always feel glamorous when we're pregnant, but looking back on this amazing time through the beauty of photography is a special way to remember this time long after your baby has been born into the world. So, how can you make your pregnancy photo shoot as successful as possible?

Here are my top tips to make your upcoming photo session a breeze!

Book your photo session in advance

Many people are surprised to learn that there is only a small window of time in your 9 months of pregnancy that is the best time for your session. The main reason for this is that we want your tummy to be beautiful and round, but we don't want you so far advanced in your pregnancy that you start to feel those common end of pregnancy feelings of tiredness and discomfort. It's for these reasons that I advise my clients to book in a time when they will be around 32 to 34 weeks pregnant. If you're expecting twins (or even triplets!), we need to factor in that your babies may arrive early and that your baby bump will likely be on the larger size. In this case I suggest doing your session a bit earlier at around 30 - 32 weeks.

Getting your children and partner involved in your maternity photoshoot is so important! These moments are precious so capture them forever.

Chat with your Partner & Kids About Getting Involved

I always love to include partners and older children in pregnancy photo sessions. Welcoming a new baby is an important milestone in every family so I always do my best to capture the interactions between all of your family members and your baby bump. Some of my favourite images are of older siblings and baby bumps! I always include partners in images as well. Watching partners interact with your baby belly is a special interaction which melts my heart. Sometimes partners are a little reluctant to get in front of the camera. I always do my very best to ensure that everyone feels at ease and comfortable.

Choose a Photographer Whose Work you Love

Before booking a pregnancy photographer, it's very important to find and book in with a photographer whose work really speaks to you. Have a good look at several photographers' images and make sure that you really like their style - be it classic, edgy, modern or minimalistic.
